![]() ![]() I was disappointed that Henry and Delilah didn't actually get to meet. I felt so empty after the ending of Firewatch. I played both What Remains Of Edith Finch, and Firewatch. I also would encourage you not to think better or worse of it comparing it to what you wanted it to be, but compared to what it tried to be and if it was successful in that. I wouldn’t approach more indie pieces like Firewatch thinking there’s going to be a boss battle at the end, but more of an approach of being along for the ride. I wouldn’t say you’re stupid for feeling that, but I would say maybe you came in with the wrong expectation. I think this is sort of like when somebody watches a movie with a sort of ambiguous ending and is disappointed with it. The game also makes you think you’re playing a horror game at times, makes you feel uneasy. There sort of is some closure with the Ned story but it’s more sad than it is fulfilling. Closure that he probably will never get with his wife because of how things have gone already. Henry is a character that you are supposed to be and feel through and he wants there to be a big conspiracy to solve, a mystery, closure. That’s exactly the way the game wants you to feel. Go back to your wife with severe dementia! Alright… welp… Really… that’s it? Delilah calls his car a piece of shit, says she’s not interested in meeting him and… roll credits? Rescue teams here. ![]() No?Okay, well maybe Henry’s gone crazy? Imagined it all, perhaps-idk I’m reaching here. Maybe the scientists really did have some sinister plot after all? Oh. Maybe Delilah’s not who she says she is? She did have that weird convo with someone when she didn’t know Henry was listening… Nothing. I just thought there’d be more to it than just taking a tumble in a random empty cave.Īfter finding Neds hideout I thought Oh man, time for the big plot twist on my way to Delilah’s lookout! Somethings about to happen! Maybe I’ll face Ned in a final brawl on my way there…? Nope. Surely that can’t be the big “shocker”? I suspected he was probably dead from the get-go. What could they possibly be holding deep in that mysterious cave? Something crazy for sure! Oh, no, sorry… once again nothing, just a dead kid who accidentally fell. The entire base camp we break into? Seems so sinister… what’s going on? Oh, once again, nothing. I thought the girls disappearing were going to lead to something… but nope… they were found safe and sound… somewhere far away…. (Gonna add here that I’ve played similar style games like Life is Strange and What Remains of Edith Finch and both left me with so much to think about after, but Firewatch just made me feel so underwhelmed.) A plot twist… a mind f***k, a… something. (MAJOR Spoilers ahead) Got really into the game in those short hours.
